Stain vs dye
Acid stain reacts with the cement and gives that mottled terracotta, amber, and espresso look. It will not be uniform, and that is the point. Dyes sit in the surface and can hit a more specific hue when you need to pull a color from the house. We often combine them. Neither one hides cracks or a bad original finish — we will say so if the slab should be replaced instead.
Sealer is maintenance, not magic
A sealer keeps color from UV chalking, darkens the finish, and makes cleaning easier. It also wears in traffic lanes. We use products rated for our heat, and we tell you when to come back. Resealing an existing patio in Helotes or Garden Ridge is a regular call. If the old sealer is failing, it has to come off or be compatible — we test that first.
