Residential flatwork

Concrete driveways built for South Texas soil and sun

A driveway in Bexar, Kendall, or Comal County has to handle clay movement, heat, and daily traffic. SATEX pours residential driveways that start with the base — not just a pretty finish.

  • 4–6 inch residential slabs with a compacted limestone base
  • 4,000 PSI mixes for vehicle loads and Texas heat
  • Saw-cut control joints laid out to the slab, not as an afterthought
  • Broom, exposed, stamped, or stained finishes
  • Tear-out of failed driveways and rebuilds

Why San Antonio driveways fail

Most failed driveways around San Antonio were poured thin, on poorly compacted fill, with joints that do not match the slab size. Expansive clay and caliche pockets move. When the base is not right, the slab cracks at the garage, at the street, and down the middle of the tire path. We rebuild those. We also pour new drives for infill homes in Stone Oak, Helotes, Fair Oaks Ranch, and acreage lots north of 1604.

How we spec a residential drive

Typical passenger-vehicle drives are 4 inches on a compacted crushed-limestone base with welded wire or #3 rebar. Heavier trucks, RV pads, and sloped Hill Country approaches go thicker. We slope for drainage away from the house, match existing garage and street elevations, and plan joint layout before the truck arrives. Decorative borders, ribbon drives, and stamped aprons are common when the house is limestone or stucco.

Replacement without wrecking the yard

Tear-out is part of the job. We saw-cut, break, haul, and regrade. Irrigation heads, edging, and nearby oaks get protected. If the old drive was holding water against the foundation, we correct the pitch. Homeowners in Boerne and Bulverde often have long, narrow access — we plan truck and pump logistics before demo day so we are not stuck on a ranch road with a loaded mixer.
